University of Catania is the oldest university of Sicily (1434). The Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment deals with studies about the reuse of biomasses from agro-industrial or natural residues, in order to improve soil fertility and to extract biostimulant compounds.
University of Torino, one of the oldest universities in the world, was founded in 1404. The Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences has developed processes and products for the valorization of urban and agriculture biowastes since 2007.
Unitelma Sapienza University of Rome is a young online & distance learning university. The Bioeconomy in Transition Research Group is involved in research concerning the emergence of a circular and bio-based economy relying on the use of renewable resources for the production of novel products.
Municipality of Vrilissia is located in northeast Attica occupying 3.600 km2 surface area and including 45000 inhabitants and 11352 households. The municipality has been implementing a Local Waste Management Plan with different materials recycling and composting channel since 2015.
